Alright, let's get down to business, shall we?  Tonight we're going to take a look at Deborah Lippmann Bad Romance.  I can't really give you a background about this polish, other than to say that it is clearly Lady Gaga inspired, because I received it in a swap.  However, I can tell you about my experiences with it!

Color: Black jelly with purple glitters.
Finish: Glitter Jelly – glitter in a colored jelly base.

Bottle / Brush: Deborah Lippmann – smaller lid with a lip at the top to help with control.  Average wand and brush length and width.  Good control with easy application.

Opacity: High – this is one coat over Elevation Pic du Gar, which is a purple.  Bad Romance is so pigmented, you can't even see the purple at all.

Glitter Application: Easy – Once I added thinner, it spread evenly without much manipulation.

Consistency: Thick – thick or it can be clumpy, but is easily remedied with some polish thinner.

Overall Ease of Application: Medium – applies well once thinner has been added.  Spreads well without much manipulation.

Stampability: Not designed for stamping.

Dry Time: Medium – dry to the touch with minimal smudging in 3-8 minutes.

Overall Thoughts: When I first opened this bottle, I was seriously disappointed.  It was thick.  Goopy.  Hard to manage.  My other DL's, while I don't have many, have simply gorgeous formulas.  Bad Romance, however, was a disaster to deal with - until I added thinner.  I didn't just add a little thinner, either.  I added a lot of thinner.  Shook it up.  Let it sit.  Tried again later.  That seemed to do the trick!  Once it was sufficiently thinned, I was able to apply it without any effort.  I re-swatched it over Elevation Pic du Gar, which is what you're seeing in these pictures, and it was pretty perfect.  The glitter came out of the bottle easily and it spread without much manipulation.    I'm torn about this polish...  While it is quite pretty, I don't really need it in my collection like I need other polishes.  It's currently in my sell stash, but after looking at these pictures again, I may have changed my mind!  Ack!!

Around where I live, you can purchase Deborah Lippmann polishes from Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, and Von Maur.  I've also purchased some from QVC.

What do you think I should do?  Keep or sell Bad Romance?

  1. I would sell it. I buy lots of brands and colors. BUT if I don't love it after using a couple times it has got to go! Makes room to try more! Lol!

    1. That's sort of how I feel right now. It's a really pretty color, but I'm not sure how often I'll wear it. I think someone else will enjoy it more than I do. :)

  2. It's gorgeous but I hear ya on the nightmare formula. I wasn't satisfied till I got my hands on Julep O' Canada. OMG, that crap is HORRIBLE! It's so thick it's ridiculous...so pretty though.

    1. Yikes! Good to know, though. I don't have a single Julep. Nothing has really stood out to me as uber unique or awesome. I dunno, I could be wrong!

    2. I really like their glitters, except for O' Canada. Maybe I should try some thinner? Honestly, you're right...They don't really have many unique polishes from what I've seen. I'm not crazy about the slender brushes either :/ Make it harder for me to get a smooth finish on my shimmers.

    1. Thanks so much! And yes, the only DL I have seriously amazing application with is Foot Loose, which is a crelly, so it's going to always be easy to apply. :)

  5. That's sad about the formula since it is a beautiful polish, especially for how much these cost.

    1. I know. :( I'm just glad I received it in a swap. It is really pretty, but I do wonder if the Revlon dupe has better application.

    1. I know! How do you like its application? If I get seller/swapper's remorse later, I want to know I can still get a decently priced backup!

    1. The application is a lot better now that I've thinned the crap out of it. I'm just thinking that I could use the space and someone else may like it better. =/

  10. Congrats for 1000+ followers! And great giveaway too. If it was me who owned it I would have kept it. I see what you mean when saying it isn't the most important polish in the world, other polishes are more amazing but this still was very nice. It's a beautiful polish and now when you've improved the formula I think you'll maybe like it more. :)

    1. Thank you!!! I'm super excited. :) I'm still on the fence about it... Although, if I do sell it, it's not discontinued, so I'd be able to get another. :)

  11. Sell! Too much work to have to add thinner in order to use it when you want. Sell, sell, sell. ;)
